Last night, the Senate passed $2 trillion in emergency health care and economic relief for Iowa hospitals, workers, and small businesses facing the worst crisis in generations – and a lot of those measures would be missing if it were up to Senator Ernst. Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Jeremy Busch released the following statement:

“The original plan Senator Ernst supported provided billions to corporations but not enough to Iowans in need, to hospitals running out of equipment, or to businesses across our state worried they may close forever. Fortunately, others in the Senate stepped forward and improved the relief package that passed last night, but Iowans shouldn’t have to hope someone else will step in. Iowans deserve a Senator who will fight to put Iowans first,” said Jeremy Busch, Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson

While Senator Ernst was ‘pointing fingers‘ in defense of Mitch McConnell’s bill that “would provide a lot of help for corporate executives and shareholders, and not nearly enough for American workers,” rural small businesses were on the verge of permanent closure as Iowa faced a “staggering” number of unemployment claims and lost wages. Meanwhile, Iowa hospitals were making ‘urgent requests‘ for personal protective wear as they were forced to resort to makeshift safety equipment.
