Iowa Democratic Party Communications Director Mandy McClure released the following statement in response to First Congressional District GOP candidate Thomas Hansen contradicting official social distancing guidance:
“As congressional democrats like Abby Finkenauer work towards a bill to put workers and families first and address the COVID-19 pandemic head-on with critical medical resources, Iowans are closely following public health guidance to curb the spread of the pandemic in our state.
“Instead of listening to the overwhelming guidance from health experts to stay away from public spaces, Thomas Hansen – GOP candidate in the First Congressional District and Winneshiek County Republican Party Chair is defiantly downplaying social distancing and demonstrating firsthand his failure to lead for Iowans.
“Contradicting experts and ignoring warnings during this public health crisis only puts Iowans lives at risk. Hansen’s primary opponent Ashley Hinson needs to immediately tell Iowans whether she agrees with Hansen in downplaying the severity of this public health crisis.”
