Will Hinson Hold Trump to His Promise To Provide Iowans With Bare-Minimum Relief?

Ashley Hinson Praised Trump’s Photo-Op One Day After He Lied to Iowans About Individual Assistance Aid

DES MOINES — Yesterday, State Rep. Ashley Hinson stood side by side with President Trump as he spent just an hour in Iowa and never left the airport to meet Iowans or see the derecho’s damage. Hinson praised his empty campaign stop while thousands of Iowans in the first district are still waiting on the full backing of the federal government and 22,000 are still without power.

The trip came just a day after Trump lied to Iowans with claims of a fully approved disaster declaration, when in reality he denied individual assistance to the 8,200 homeowners who completely lost their homes in the storm and the countless others camping out in tents without electricity. Trump’s partisan drop-in even excluded Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, who has been pressing for more help and assistance for over a week.

Yet Hinson praised Trump’s repeated lies of fully approving Iowa’s disaster declaration:

KGAN: But there was a noticeable political skew to that leadership invited to participate…Instead, the President heard from Ashley Hinson, the Republican running against Finkenauer in November.”

“Hinson brags about her close connection to the President, but when she has a seat at the table she refuses to ask him why he hasn’t approved individual assistance for Iowans trying to pick up the pieces after the derecho,” said IDP Press Secretary Samantha Kennedy. “If Hinson cares about the people she’s running to serve, she needs to answer Iowans’ questions and hold the president accountable to his inaction on the storm, the GOP-backed ACA lawsuit, and the tax scam. But after yesterday’s stop, it’s clear she’ll never stand up to the Republican establishment.”
