WATCH: Congressman Ami Bera, M.D., IDP Chair Rita Hart Hold Press Call Ahead of Trump Visit

Today, Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. joined Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart on a press call ahead of Donald Trump’s latest visit to Iowa hammering Trump’s promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act if he gets another term in office and highlighting the devastating impacts that would have on hundreds of thousands of Iowans.

“President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are very clear on protecting reproductive freedoms, protecting reproductive rights, protecting a woman’s ability to make their own health care decisions. And there’s nothing more important than that. We know exactly what Donald Trump would do because he did it previously. He would take those freedoms away from women and families,” said Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. “We can have a reelection of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. They will protect your health care, they will protect your ability to make your own health care decisions, and they will protect a woman’s reproductive rights. Alternatively, you can go to Donald Trump, who we know exactly what he’s done and what he will do in the future: take your health care away, take your reproductive freedoms away, and limit your access to care, and make prescription drugs more expensive because he won’t allow us to negotiate it.”

“It’s just a shame that Donald Trump is once again putting this MAGA agenda ahead of the needs of Iowans, and it really is important to understand that repealing the Affordable Care Act would devastate Iowa,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Iowa now has the lowest number of OB-GYN specialists per capita of any state in the country. That means poorer health care for all women who live in Iowa. But again, Donald Trump wants to exacerbate this abysmal environment for Iowa women’s health care. Repealing the Affordable Care Act would be nothing short of life-threatening for the people of Iowa, but Donald Trump won’t stop until he’s finally destroyed it.”
