Congressman King consistently spends time promoting white nationalists from other countries instead of working for the people of Iowa’s Fourth District.

This week, Congressman Steve King endorsed Faith Goldy to be the next Mayor of Toronto. Goldy is a proud anti-Semite and white nationalist, who has claimed that Canada is “undergoing a white genocide.” Despite the very real struggles of Iowans in his district, King seems to care more about defending white nationalists all over the world than working for his constituents in the fourth district.

Congressman King’s endorsement of the Canadian White Supremacist has earned him national condemnation – even from conservative outlets:

  • Fox News acknowledged that King was facing backlash for his endorsement of Goldy.
  • HuffPost reported that Goldy regularly recites neo-Nazi talking points on preserving the white race, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem for King. This isn’t surprising considering his record of retweeting white supremacists.
  • Vanity Fair used King’s words against him by saying that Goldy’s promotion of “white genocide” and recitation of the “white supremacist ‘14 words’ oath,” makes her “a fighter for our values” to King.
  • Vox pointed out that Goldy is well behind in polls for the race, so there was no real reason for King to endorse her except for sharing her racist views.
  • The Daily Beast called out other Republicans in Congress for not holding King accountable for his actions.

  • Canadians are also taking notice of King’s endorsement. The Toronto Star called the endorsement “highly unusual.”

King may show no remorse for his racist and divisive rhetoric, but as far as fundraising goes, his tactic has backfired. For J.D. Scholten, donations are pouring in for his campaign to beat Steve King. Scholten has raised $661,013 during the most recent fundraising period. That’s nearly four times more than King in the same period.

Julian Castro, who was recently on the receiving end of one of King’s racially offensive attacks, said that Scholten has a real shot at winning his race against King. He also dismissed King’s racist rhetoric saying, “Politicians, when they know that they’re in trouble, what they do is try and distract folks.”

King can try to distract from his failing campaign all he wants, but voters have a real choice in November. J.D. Scholten is just finishing up his You Can’t Fake Showing Up Town Hall Tour of all 39 counties in his district. While King worries about what’s happening with white nationalists all over the world, Scholten continues to run a campaign focused on helping Iowans in the fourth district.
