The Des Moines Register reported on newly released state data showing a staggering drop in Iowa patients receiving family planning services following the Republicans’ attacks on Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. Under Reynolds’ leadership, Iowans are unfortunately learning firsthand what happens when our leaders stop funding the clinics best equipped to provide critical health services to Iowa families.

“Our state and our future are in jeopardy when women and families can’t get the reproductive care they need. Governor Reynolds and her Republican cronies’ attacks on working Iowans’ access to care will have long term, devastating effects if the people don’t step in and send a clear message this November that if you take away our rights and our health, we’ll take away your political power,” said Iowa Democratic Party Spokesperson Tess Seger.

Iowa’s new family planning program is providing fewer services like contraception one year after state lawmakers excluded Planned Parenthood clinics and other abortion providers from receiving funding, recently released state data show.

The program, which launched in July 2017, is paying for fewer than a third as many birth-control pills, hormonal implants and related services as its previous version.

“This is exactly what we were concerned would happen — that people who need this program would not get enrolled and would not get services,” said Jodi Tomlonovic, executive director of the Iowa Family Planning Council, a private nonprofit group that distributes federal money for family planning services.
