Des Moines – Following the passage of H.R. 8404 the Respect for Marriage Act in the U.S. House, below is a statement from Chair Ross Wilburn:

“The Respect for Marriage Act passed by the U.S. House today ensures the rights and protections of marriage equality will never be denied to any Iowa family. Thank you Congresswoman Cindy Axne for co-sponsoring this critical legislation that provides every married couple in our state and our nation with the security and peace of mind that their marriage will be defended and respected.”

“Shame on Randy Feenstra for following his worst, bigoted impulses to leave a Constitutionally-protected right exposed to further attacks. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks have a duty to denounce Feenstra and the 156 other extremist Republicans who voted against a settled civil right.”

“Equality is for everyone. We must elect more Iowa Democrats to safeguard against the right-wing rollback of our hard-won freedoms. Iowa Democrats like Congresswoman Cindy Axne, Liz Mathis, Christina Bohannan and Ryan Melton will always stand up for Iowa families, no matter what they look like.”
