IDP Chair Rita Hart Issues Statement on Governor’s Appeal to Uphold a Six-Week Abortion Ban
Today, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart issued the following statement regarding Governor Kim Reynolds’ attempt to uphold her six-week abortion ban law:
“A law banning abortion at about six weeks, before many people know they are pregnant, is not what a rapidly growing majority of Iowans want. This ban has been struck down time after time in Iowa courts. Kim Reynolds and Republican lawmakers know this law is unpopular and that it endangers Iowans’ health, yet they continue their crusade to get it cleared by a judge to achieve an unpopular, narrow political agenda.
Democrats will continue to put people over politics and stand up to Iowa Republicans and their efforts to strip away the freedoms that allow Iowans to make their own health care decisions,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart.
