Des Moines – The Iowa Democratic Party is excited to announce the Honorable Marty Walsh as the keynote speaker for the 2022 Hall of Fame Celebration. Walsh will join the ceremony on Sunday afternoon, October 2nd in Des Moines as we honor dedicated Iowa Democrats.

“I’m thrilled to welcome the Honorable Marty Walsh to Iowa. Mr. Walsh is a champion for working families and has a strong record of standing up for workers’ rights,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn.

“Unions have made our nation and Iowa strong. As we continue to see greedy corporations take advantage of workers, we need leaders like President Joe Biden and Mr. Walsh who will ensure that every American gets the dignity and respect of a fair wage, good benefits, and a secure retirement.”

The Honorable Marty Walsh currently serves in President Biden’s cabinet. Walsh was also the Mayor of Boston for seven years. During his term as mayor, he created thousands of union jobs, worked to secure a $15/hour minimum wage, and paid family and sick leave.

Walsh is a proud card-carrying union member who worked his way up and served as leader of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Local 223. He also was the head of the Boston Metropolitan Building Trades Council.

The Iowa Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame Celebration is an annual event that recognizes the outstanding work of Iowa Democratic Party leaders, activists and volunteers. The celebration will also feature our elected leaders and strong statewide candidates.
