Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart Statement on Mike Pence’s July 4th Visit
Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart issued the following statement on Mike Pence kicking off a multi-day visit to Iowa:
“As America celebrates 247 years of independence today, let’s not fail to realize that each of us must be vigilant in defending our freedoms. Mike Pence is here in Iowa actually helping to lead the MAGA charge to strip away those basic freedoms. Pence is running on a promise to take away women’s freedom to make their own health decisions while unashamedly embracing election deniers, and pushing to dismantle pillars of economic security. But Pence is not alone — no matter which extreme candidate comes out of this Republican field, there is no question that the freedoms we hold dear will be on the ballot in 2024.”

- Pence was among the first Republicans to call for a national abortion ban after Roe v. Wade was overturned,, and says his “greatest accomplishment” of the Trump-Pence administration was appointing the justices who voted to overturn Roe.
- Pence proudly campaigned with election-denying candidates in 2022 who wanted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
- Pence has railed against marriage equality throughout his career, signing one of the most discriminatory pieces of anti-LGBTQ legislation in the country as governor of Indiana.
