Senator Cory Booker to Headline Iowa Democratic Party Fall Gala
On October 6th, Iowa Democrats will welcome Senator Cory Booker as the keynote speaker for the 2018 Iowa Democratic Party Fall Gala. Senator Booker will be joined by Fred Hubbell, Rita Hart, and the 2018 Democratic slate of candidates.
“Iowa Democrats are thrilled to welcome Senator Booker as we celebrate the hard work of our Democracy already done over the last year and kick off the last month of the 2018 election,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price.
“Senator Booker represents a future-driven vision for our party and our nation that has inspired millions. As we head in to the most grueling weeks of this cycle, we hope that his message will be the fuel Iowa Democrats need to put our candidates over the top in November.”
“The 2018 election is the most important of my lifetime,” Senator Booker said. “So much is at stake, from the future of healthcare, to whether huge tax breaks and benefits will keep flowing to those at the top at the expense of everyone else, and more. I’ve been traveling all across the country this year to campaign for Democrats and discuss the urgency of this moment, and I’m excited to come to Iowa in October to support an incredible slate of inspiring candidates.”
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has dedicated his life to fighting for those who have been left out, left behind, or left without a voice. In 1996, Booker moved to Newark, New Jersey, and founded a nonprofit organization to provide legal services for low-income families, helping tenants take on slumlords, improve their living conditions, and stay in their homes. At age twenty-nine, Booker was elected to the Newark City Council, and beginning in 2006, he served as Newark’s mayor for more than seven years.
Booker is the first African-American elected to the US Senate from New Jersey. In the Senate, Booker has fought to resist President Trump’s damaging policies and blatant disregard for fundamental American values. He’s also championed policies that advance economic and equal justice — including leading efforts to reform the broken criminal justice system, increase wages and ensure hard work is fairly rewarded, and protect the rights of all Americans to breathe clean air and drink clean water.
