Follows Republican Senator Chuck Grassley Calling Reynolds’ Previous Desperate Attacks Not Smart And A Problem
On Friday, in an appearance on Iowa Press, former Governor Branstad’s Chief of Staff Doug Gross joined the chorus of Republican leaders criticizing Governor Reynolds’ hypocritical attacks, labeling her latest ad “ineffective.” It follows in the footsteps of Republican Senator Chuck Grassley who previously criticized Governor Reynolds’ desperate and personal attacks on her opponent, saying, “I don’t think that’s smart” and it’s “a problem.”

Earlier this week, Hubbell-Hart released a new TV ad, “Closer Look,” debunking the latest hypocritical attack from Governor Reynolds with her own words. Reynolds’ latest negative ad – making it her third negative attack in a row – further showcases her willingness to say anything to win an election, even if it means stepping on her own record. The Branstad-Reynolds Administration rubber-stamped the project she now criticizes, which was finalized in February 2011 under their administration. Furthermore, Reynolds herself heaped enormous praise on the project, speaking at the facility opening in 2015 and calling it “a prime example of that spirit of innovation.”

“Once again the extremely vulnerable Governor Reynolds is willing to say anything to win an election, including stepping on her own record,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price. “Reynolds’ attacks are so desperate and embarrassingly hypocritical that even her own party leaders are criticizing them. They know, as we do, that Iowans aren’t buying what she’s selling.”

Doug Gross: “Now with regard to the [Power Fund] thing, I think it’s probably less effective for her. Because I, I, I don’t know whether investing in Pioneer Hi-Bred has ever been a disqualifier to be governor. So I don’t think we’ll start now.”

Bonnie Campbell: “And he disclosed it. And he was one of 11 people voting on that matter. That’s a totally phony issue.”
