Today, Auditor Mary Mosiman finally released the results of her audit of political ally Governor Kim Reynolds’ Medicaid Privatization disaster. Mosiman gave in and finally initiated an audit of the obviously troubled program after cost-savings estimates nearly tripled with no explanation, and she was politically no longer able to ignore calls for an audit from Democratic public servants.

The report reveals not only did Governor Reynolds’ Administration mislead the public about the savings of the program but the execution of this audit smells of partisan interference.

KEY FINDINGS FROM MOSIMAN MEDICAID AUDIT
  1. Auditor Mosiman picked the day after the election to set the parameters of the review, thus influencing when the findings would come out. This suggests that the review and its findings were influenced by the election.
  1. The report admits that it “does not examine the impact on quality or timeliness of service,” meaning that this report gives Iowans absolutely no idea if they are getting the services they are paying for, rendering any estimate of cost-savings useless.
  1. The Republicans’ implementation of Medicaid Privatization was so hasty that they were unable to follow that legal reporting requirements that could have held them accountable for this disaster.
  1. Governor Reynolds’ Administration has misled the public by understating nearly $400 million in spending on this Medicaid Privatization meltdown.
In light of the recent report on the inconsistent Medicaid Privatization savings from Auditor Mosiman, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price released the following statement:

“Governor Reynolds’ Medicaid Privatization scheme is denying Iowans their right to lifesaving health care all so the Republicans can give out more of our hard earned tax dollars to out-of-state corporations.

The audit released today on the supposed savings of the program shows that one of the biggest programs in the state is being astonishingly mismanaged, and it shows that the current trifecta of Republican leadership is willing to endorse and cover up shoddy policies that cripple hardworking families and rural communities for partisan, political gain.

Iowa Democrats will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the working people of this state, and we will keep holding those in public service accountable for this Medicaid Privatization disaster until this broken, immoral system is fixed.”
