In honor of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, Iowa Democratic Party Stonewall Caucus Chair Chair Kyla Paterson released the following statement:

“Today, we stand in solemn solidarity with the transgender community and all those who have been lost to needless anti-transgender violence. No one should have to fear for their life in this country simply for being who they are. We are a nation founded on incredible diversity, and one that has not only persisted despite our differences but thrived because of them.

It has never been more important for us to embrace our diversity and encourage compassion in our communities. So, that’s exactly what we are calling on all Iowans to do today. Find a way to reach out and tell someone who may be feeling isolated or alone that you are here and that you care. Together, we can make Iowa and America a more welcoming place for all.”
