Des Moines – As Iowans face high gas prices due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and COVID-19 supply chain disruptions, Congresswoman Cindy Axne voted for a bill that would prevent oil and gas companies from price gouging at the pump. Iowa Republicans Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Randy Feenstra instead chose to side with big oil companies.
“First baby formula, now gas prices – this is ridiculous! It’s clear Iowa Republicans continue to point fingers and do nothing to solve the problem,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Ross Wilburn. “While President Biden and Congresswoman Cindy Axne have taken action to lower prices at the pump, Iowa Republicans are putting politics over people. Iowans want leaders who get things done and who take action to solve problems. That’s why we need to send Senator Liz Mathis, Representative Christina Bohannan and Ryan Melton to Congress.”
This no vote is now a sad pattern of Republicans actively working against relief for working families. Earlier this week, the vast majority of House Republicans voted against the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act, which would provide emergency funding to address the shortage of infant formula in the United States. And earlier this year, Ashley Hinson and Randy Feenstra voted against capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month.
