Today, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, Troy Price, released the following statement on the passing of 2017 Hall of Fame Inductee Norm Sterzenbach:

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Norm’s passing. As we all heard last night in his son’s tribute, Norm was not a man of many words. He was a man of deeds who showed us the meaning of dedication. Norm’s influence will be felt in our community for years to come, and we will miss his presence dearly. We will honor him every day by caring a little more, showing a little more compassion, and recommitting ourselves to the work of making Iowa a better place for all.

Our hearts go out to Norm’s family and all those mourning his passing today.”

For more than 40 years, Norm Sterzenbach fought for Democrats, progressive candidates, and workers’ rights. Norm got his start as an organizer with IBEW Local 1362 in Cedar Rapids, working his way up to become the Business Manager, a position he held for ten years. He was a tireless advocate for his members.

Norm’s work didn’t stop with his union or labor causes.  Norm threw himself into the work of electing Democrats in Linn County and statewide. He has helped recruit candidates, helped raise funds, knocked doors, made calls, led caucus trainings, and taught candidates how to structure and run campaigns.

As Norm got older, he was not one to rest on his laurels.  Rather, he worked hard to bring young people into the party and served as a mentor to Democrats across the State.

Norm Sterzenbach was inducted in to the Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame on July 27, 2017.
