Today, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Mark Smith released the following statement in response to President Trump’s blatant distortion of his agriculture record in Dubuque:

“President Trump came to Iowa today to spread more lies about the pandemic and distort his record on Iowa’s rural economy. By selling out ethanol, farmers and producers to Big Oil and launching reckless trade wars, Trump has devastated Iowa’s corn and soybean farmers, threatened good-paying jobs in small towns, sent farm bankruptcies soaring, and destroyed relationships with our best trading customers around the world. Just in the last year and a half alone, plants in Merrill, Sioux Center and Emmetsburg have idled or closed under Donald Trump’s watch.

“Joe Biden has shown he is a friend to farmers and a friend to rural America. His plan to invigorate rural economies — and to promote ethanol and trade policy that works for American farmers — will pave the path forward for rural communities to not only recover from Trump, but to build back better for generations to come.”
