IDP Chair Rita Hart Issues Statement on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart issued a statement about the IDP’s efforts to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by celebrating diversity and inclusion:

“Today is the federal holiday honoring the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Iowa Democrats plan to celebrate by renewing our commitment to protecting our freedoms and the sacred right to vote, and by reflecting on the legacy of Dr. King.

At every single Democratic caucus site in Iowa, we have instructed our chairs to take a moment and remember Dr. King. I’m so proud of the work of our Black Caucus Chair Al Womble, who has put in a lot of effort to make sure that all 99 counties remember what the day is truly about. I’m also thankful to all of our Black leaders who continue to guide us every step of the way and who steadfastly lift their voices for a better Iowa.

Iowa Democrats know that our democracy is stronger when more people participate. We know we have to make it easier for Iowans to vote, not harder,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart.
