As Early Voting Kicks Off in the Hawkeye State, Iowans are Excited to Elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Democrats Up and Down the Ticket 

Iowans across the state got up early Monday morning to vote in record numbers

DES MOINES – Yesterday, the first day that Iowans could cast in-person early ballots, voters all across the Hawkeye State lined up at their county auditors’ offices to cast their ballots for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Theresa Greenfield, and Democrats up and down the ticket.

“‘From the record-setting number of absentee ballots already requested and the energy we saw at early voting locations this morning, it’s clearer than ever that Democrats are motivated to make our voices heard at the ballot box,’ state party chairman Mark Smith said in a statement.”

“The Biden campaign in Iowa also pointed to information on early voting at its website: iwillvote.com/IA.

“‘Joe Biden has put forward a comprehensive and clear plan to get this pandemic under control and get Iowans back to work, which is why we are seeing so much excitement and enthusiasm on the first day of early voting across the state,’ Lauren Dillon, the Biden campaign’s state director, said in a statement. ‘Iowans should know it’s easy and convenient for them to make their voices heard and vote early this year — either by mail or in person.’”

“‘Joe Biden’s Iowa campaign director, Lauren Dillon, joined the line to vote in Des Moines on Monday morning. She said she was glad to see so many people out voting despite the pandemic.

“‘I think (the President’s COVID-19) diagnosis underscores the importance of wearing a mask and being safe,’ she said. ‘But we’re going to get out and we’re gonna make sure that people are ready to vote in a very safe way.’”

[Biden for President Iowa State Director Lauren Dillon:] “We’ve seen a ton of people come and line up to vote this morning. I’ve gotten some reports from other places in Iowa where they’re seeing the same thing, so people are clearly excited to vote, they’re taking the election seriously, and they’re going up to vote this morning.”

“One of those voters today was Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer. She stressed the importance of having a plan.”

[Congresswoman Finkenauer:] “Whether it’s voting early, whether it is going to the polls, whether it’s voting absentee, just make that plan and make sure you get your votes in, it’s more important than ever.”
