IDP Chair Rita Hart issued the following statement on Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis visiting Iowa today:

 

“Ramaswamy and DeSantis are returning to Iowa to push the same extreme message they did on the debate stage this week, pandering to the fringes of their MAGA base while neglecting to offer any solutions that would help working families, address climate change, or lower prescription drug prices. Anyone who’s been in Iowa this past week dealing with the record-breaking temperatures knows just how wrong Ramaswamy was when he called the climate change agenda a hoax and how out of touch DeSantis’s push for a national abortion ban is with the majority of Americans. The bottom line is both of these candidates and every MAGA Republican running for president continue to show how wrong they are for Iowa and our country.” 

 

Here’s what you need to know about Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis:

 

Both Vivek and DeSantis have extreme anti-choice records:

• DeSantis signed one of the most extreme abortion bans in the country that bans many women from seeking care before they even know they’re pregnant.

• Ramaswamy has expressed support for some of the most extreme abortion bans in the country.

 

Both Vivek and DeSantis have played into Putin’s hand:

• Ramaswamy recently said that “Our goal should not be for Putin to lose,” and pushed for giving major parts of Ukraine to Russia.

• DeSantis has repeatedly parroted Putin’s talking points, calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “territorial dispute”.

 

Ramaswamy has spent this week pushing fringe conspiracy theories about 9/11 and January 6.

Under DeSantis, Florida has some of the highest inflation in the nation. The average price of property insurance has more than doubled since DeSantis took office.
