VAN/Votebuilder
Votebuilder/VAN (Voter Activation Network) is a centralized, online voter engagement used nationwide by Democrats to manage voter data and perform voter contact.
Votebuilder (VAN) Guide
The Iowa Democratic Party has created a comprehensive VAN guide tailored to align with Iowa’s organizing structure and data standards. This includes step-by-step instructions and best practices for users at every level.
VAN Trainings
VAN 101 is hosted on the second Wednesday of the month at 6pm. It covers what VAN is, quick look up, creating a list, creating a virtual phone bank, quick mark, and creating an event.
VAN 201 is hosted on the fourth Friday of the month at 6pm. It covers sharing a folder, entering and closing shifts, counts and crosstabs, and multistep searches. The Iowa Democratic Party currently hosts VAN trainings twice a month on the second Wednesday and fourth Friday of the month.
Campaign Votebuilder Access
In general, partisan candidates listed as Democrats on the ballot and non-partisan candidates who are bona fide Democrats may contract with the Iowa Democratic Party for VAN access. Candidates can request VAN access by completing the Iowa VAN Request Form. After completing the form, the designated contact will receive a contract to sign. That contract must be signed and payment must be received from the candidate’s campaign account to the Iowa Democratic Party before VAN access can be granted.
VAN Quiz
County activists who want access to more advanced VAN features must first pass the VAN quiz with a score of 80% or higher.
