The Iowa Democratic Party is hiring an Organizing Director for our coordinated campaign. The Organizing Director will be responsible for creating and executing a robust statewide voter contact operation through 2026. The Organizing Director will work with the Coordinated Director and other department leads on collaborative campaign initiatives, as well as with outside stakeholders and grassroots groups. The Organizing Director will manage and train organizing staff, serve as a point of contact for contributors, and will assist as needed with operations on the ground.
Status: This position is a full-time, regular position through the end of December 2026. Salary based on experience. The position is based in Des Moines.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement the coordinated campaign’s statewide organizing program, including staff development, volunteer recruitment, and voter contact
- Hire and oversee all Organizing department staff, including Deputy Organizing Directors, Regional Organizing Directors, and Organizers
- Create systems and communication structures that provide clear direction and motivate teams to achieve ambitious volunteer and voter contact goals
- Oversee a training program that boosts staff productivity and develops volunteers’ skills
- Collaborate with Data, Operations, and Voter Access departments
Qualifications:
- At least 2+ cycles of organizing experience, with a strong preference for at least 1 cycles of experience in either a Deputy or Director role on a statewide electoral organizing program
- Experience managing staff through multiple layers is required
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven fluency with VAN, Mobilize, and other organizing tools
- Attention to detail, highly-developed organizational skills
- Ability to work within a team to achieve shared goals across departments
