The John L. Lewis Labor Festival will take place on Saturday, August 30th, in Lucas Iowa. This is an important day for Labor in Iowa. A native born Iowan, John L. Lewis was the leader of organized labor who served as president of the United Mine Workers of America from 1920 to 1960. A major player in the history of coal mining, he was the driving force behind the founding of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO).
The day will be filled with family fun activities and a parade through the streets of Lucas Iowa, which you are welcome to join.
