Party Platform and Statement of Principles
The Platform is a comprehensive statement of the policy positions and legislative goals of Iowa Democrats. It is developed and adopted biennially through a grassroots-driven process, beginning at precinct caucuses and continuing through county, district, and state conventions. The platform addresses a wide range of issues including healthcare, education, climate change, workers’ rights, civil rights, and more, serving as a roadmap for Democratic action in Iowa.
The Statement of Principles serves as a succinct declaration of the core values that unite Iowa Democrats. While the platform provides specific policy positions, the Statement of Principles articulates the broader moral and philosophical commitments of the party.
Constitution, Bylaws, and Code of Conduct
The Constitution serves as the foundational document of the Iowa Democratic Party. It establishes the structure and governance of the Party, including the roles and responsibilities of officers, committees, and local organizations. It outlines procedures for meetings, voting, and decision-making at all levels. The Constitution can be amended at State Convention.
The Bylaws are an extension of the Constitution, providing detailed rules for how the State Central Committee (SCC) functions. They outline meeting procedures, voting rights, officer responsibilities, and other operational guidelines that allow the SCC to carry out its work efficiently and transparently. The Bylaws can be added or amended by the State Central Committee
The Code of Conduct outlines behavioral expectations for members of the State Central Committee. It covers issues such as harassment, discrimination, ethical communication, and conflict resolution. This policy ensures that SCC members can work together respectfully and productively, reflecting the party’s commitment to integrity, equity, and safe spaces for all participants.
Delegate Selection Plan
The Delegate Selection Plan outlines the official process by which Iowa selects delegates to the Democratic National Convention. It ensures that the delegate selection process is open, inclusive, and compliant with the rules of the national Democratic Party. The plan covers caucus participation, district and state conventions, affirmative action goals, and mechanisms for addressing challenges or disputes.
