RECAP: Ahead of Trump Rally, Ashley Hinson Constituents Call Out Hinson for Raising Iowans’ Costs
DUBUQUE – Today in Dubuque, local leaders came together ahead of President Trump’s final Iowa rally – his second in as many weeks – to boost a desperate Ashley Hinson. Speakers at the event spotlighted the harm of Hinson’s seven votes to continue the war in Iran and five votes to keep in place the tariffs, which are driving up costs.
Today’s event continued the “Hinson’s Gain, Iowa’s Pain” statewide tour.
Key context: Hinson cast her seventh vote to continue the war in Iran just weeks ago as it devastated Iowa with “record diesel prices,” “surg[ing]” gas costs, fertilizer prices “near peak levels,” and inflation higher than the national average. She has repeatedly defended the war in Iran and downplayed the impact on Iowans, calling it “out of sight, out of mind” as Iowans struggle to pay their bills. She has raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Oil, and now those companies are seeing record profits up to $14 billion from the Iran war. And just this week, she said she was open to further escalating the conflict.
The costs from the war coming on top of her votes to cut healthcare for 110,000 Iowans and make it more expensive for 119,000 Iowans – all while she has increased her wealth by up to 15x since getting to Congress.
“We know firsthand what it’s like when someone like Ashley Hinson holds public office to enrich herself – 15 times wealthier today than she was six years ago,” said Pam Jochum, former President of the Iowa Senate. “[She’s] using our tax money to live in a luxury Washington D.C. apartment while she turns her back on all of us who are struggling day to day. Again, we need humble leaders, and I believe Iowans are going to turn the page this year and elect Josh Turek.”
“We’re here to talk about Ashley Hinson, who, in fact, is not running to represent our community,” said Matt Robinson, candidate for Iowa House District 72. “She’s running to represent herself, enrich herself further, and fall to the corporate greed and the corruption that’s happening within our political system. […] We need leaders in Iowa who understand what it’s like for everyday Iowans, the working class, the folks I am looking to represent. Ashley takes donations from corporate billionaires, and she ensures that they continue to have loopholes within our government to enrich themselves.”
“Ashley Hinson constantly tells us how she’s taking care of us,” said Ron Healey, veteran, farmer, and retired UAW member. “Our problem is we don’t see it at the VA. Our families that are veterans are struggling with everyday issues with food, with medicine, with support for the suicide issue.”
“Hinson supported the so-called Big Beautiful Bill that implemented cuts to Medicaid,” said Bill Stumpf, father of a son with Down syndrome who uses Medicaid. “Estimates indicate up to 100,000 Iowans could lose their health care because of this bill. We believe this could just be the beginning, and ultimately impact more people with disabilities, like my son Kyle. Meanwhile, Hinson continues to get more wealthy at the expense of Iowans who are just trying to get by.”
“I am very concerned about possible cuts to Medicaid and Medicare,” said Kyle Stumpf, son of Bill Stumpf who lives with Down syndrome. “I am largely nonverbal. I receive this communication device with funding from Medicaid, along with speech therapy, also covered by Medicaid. It helps me communicate, an ability many people take for granted.”
