Ashley Hinson Stares Down Defeat With Only 4 Days Left Until Election Day as She Comes Out in Support of Escalating the War in Iran

In This Final Edition of the Ashley Accountability Alert, New Reports Reveal Just How Out of Touch She is with Iowans, While Iowa Veterans Call Out Hinson for Voting 7X to Continue Iran War

DES MOINES – This week, as we recognized the eighth month anniversary of the war in Iran, Ashley Hinson came out in support of escalating the war. Iowa veterans followed up by calling her out for voting seven times to continue the war, which is having a devastating impact on Iowans and U.S. servicemembers.

Meanwhile, a pair of new reports revealed to Iowans that Ashley Hinson is completely out of touch with Iowans who are ready to reject her on Election Day.

The reports found Hinson spent $92,000 on her “luxury” campaign bus tour even as she begged Iowans to chip in a “little gas money,” and that she lived in a “half million dollar” house – now “worth nearly $1 million” –  bought and paid for by her parents while she attended the University of Southern California.

Fortunately for Hinson, this will be the last miserable week she has after she loses the race for U.S. Senate on November 3rd…

  • Reporter: “If elected to the Senate, can your constituents count on you to push back against further escalation?”
  • Then, Hinson failed to push back against her own party after promising to confront President Trump at his Sioux City rally over plans to import Russian diesel.
  • At a campaign stop in Coralville, Ashley Hinson said she “didn’t get a chance” to discuss President Trump’s deal to import Russian diesel despite promising Iowans she would “confront” the president at his rally in Sioux City last week.
  • What’s more, Iowa veterans came together on the eight month anniversary of the war in Iran to speak about the impact Ashley Hinson’s seven votes to continue the war are having on Iowans and U.S. servicemembers.
  • “‘It’s been an enormous cost to all of us, not just in dollars and cents, but emotionally it has been very, very difficult. It’s a catastrophic blow,’ said Ray Walton, a U.S. Army veteran.”
  • And then, Hinson quite literally ran away from CNN’s Manu Raju as he tried to ask her why she voted repeatedly to continue the war in Iran.
  • Next, a new report from MeidasTouch News uncovered that Ashley Hinson lived in a “half million dollar” house bought and paid for by her parents while she attended the University of Southern California.

See What Iowans Were Seeing and Reading This Week:

MeidasTouch News: Ashley Hinson, who said millennials are ‘bad at saving, lived in half million dollar house her parents bought her in L.A.

  • Republican Senate candidate Ashley Hinson’s parents bought her a house in Hollywood for her to live in while she attended USC, then sold the house after she graduated for a half million dollars. Hinson has attacked the financial habits of millennials saying “millennials are the worst group of savers in the country right now.”
  • Hinson attended the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles from 2001 to 2004. According to public records, Hinson’s parents purchased a house on Wilton Pl. in Los Angeles in 2001 for $260,000. They sold the house in 2005 for $560,000. The house was in the heart of Hollywood just blocks from the Sunset Strip. Adjusted for inflation, the 2005 sale of the house would be worth nearly $1 million today. For a temporary house for college.
  • Hinson’s high school friends said growing up Hinson was “one of the richest kids in school.” When they visited her in L.A. they said she drove luxury cars, and would yell at bouncers for not letting her in clubs with a fake I.D., shouting she was, “the hottest blond here.”
  • Hinson told moderators in a televised PBS debate earlier this month that her father taught her the value of compounding interest when she was in 6th grade in order to save for her future. In that same answer, Hinson attacked millennials as the “worst group of savers in the country right now.” The response came as Hinson was trying to push Trump savings accounts for younger Americans.

  • Shot: Hinson says she will tell President Trump at his Sioux City rally that the deal to import Russian diesel is a “bad idea.”

Heartland Signal: Hinson asks Iowans for ‘gas money’ as fuel costs climb amid Iran war

  • Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ashley Hinson is asking Iowans to chip in “a little gas money” for her statewide campaign bus tour as fuel prices climb, household budgets tighten and the Iran War adds pressure to energy costs across the state.
  • Hinson made the request during a bus tour stop in Fort Dodge earlier this month, asking for donors to “help give us a little gas money for our bus.”
  • Federal Election Commission campaign finance records show her campaign spent a combined $92,000 on bus charter and logistics expenses: $87,000 for charter services and $5,000 for logistics.
  • The charter company, Premiere Transportation, advertises luxury coach rentals featuring “modern comfort” and “VIP executive coaches.”
  • The “gas money” request comes as Hinson faces criticism over her votes against congressional efforts to end U.S. military involvement in the conflict. The Iran War has contributed to higher energy prices by disrupting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. Reuters reported that renewed U.S.-Iran fighting and attacks on tankers intensified concerns about energy supply disruptions. Hinson voted seven times seven times against war powers resolutions, six of them on Iran.
  • Hinson’s campaign has framed the tour as a way to promote lower costs. But asking Iowans to help pay for a $92,000 campaign transportation effort, while farmers face sharply higher diesel and fertilizer costs linked in part to a war she has declined to help end, raises a question about who is being asked to bear the costs and who is accountable for them.
  • Hinson’s campaign did not respond to Heartland Signal’s request for comment.

CNN:

  • Manu Raju, CNN: “You want to end the Iran war. Why not limit Trump’s war powers in Iran? You’ve had that opportunity.”
  • Ashley Hinson: “We don’t need another resolution. We need our US military and the president to end the war.”
  • Manu Raju, CNN: But why not Congress assert its authority?
  • [On Screen]: Ashley Hinson runs onto her campaign bus to avoid more questions about her seven votes to continue the war in Iran.

KCCI: Iowa Democrats and veterans criticize Rep. Ashley Hinson over Iran war votes

  • Iowa Democrats and veterans criticized Republican 2nd District Congresswoman Ashley Hinson for her votes on the war in Iran during an Iowa Democratic Party event on Wednesday.
  • At the event, veterans and a military spouse discussed the cost of the war, including its impact on military families, farmers, and people paying higher fuel prices.
  • “It’s been an enormous cost to all of us, not just in dollars and cents, but emotionally it has been very, very difficult. It’s a catastrophic blow,” said Ray Walton, a U.S. Army veteran.

WOI: Iowa veterans protest Ashley Hinson in Des Moines

  • Anchor: “New today, Iowa veterans in Des Moines are protesting Republican Senate candidate Ashley Hinson on the eighth month anniversary of the Iran war. They say Hinson voted seven times for the war, which led to the surge in gas prices that affected Iowa farmers. Now, in the eight months since the war began, three Iowa servicemembers have died in the Middle East. Nathan Sage is a former U.S. Marine and a former U.S. Senate candidate. […] Sage says Hinson doesn’t support Iowans the way he claims she’s supposed to.”
  • Nathan Sage, former U.S. Senate candidate and Marine veteran: “At the end of the day, Ashley Hinson is just another out-of-touch politician backing Donald Trump, not not backing the people that she’s supposed to be representing, the people of Iowa who are struggling every day. So, at the end of the day, we can sit here and talk about how you know this administration has a plan. It hasn’t been that way for eight months.”
  • Anchor: “Sage also says the Iran war is affecting the way people vote and will come to gas prices and the general increase in cost-of-living.”

Nexstar:

  • Reporter: “If elected to the Senate, can your constituents count on you to push back against further escalation?”
  • Ashley Hinson: “As you know, these conflicts can change very, very quickly. So, I’m not going to box the American people into what we need to do. I trust our U.S. military.”
