FACT CHECK: Zach Lahn Wants to Ban mRNA Cancer Treatments and Make Iowans Sicker
CEDAR RAPIDS – On the debate stage, Kansas carpetbagger and career political operative Zach Lahn is trying to rewrite his record of promising to ban lifesaving mRNA cancer treatments. Iowa has one of the highest rates of new cancer growth in the country, but Lahn would ban “any mRNA vaccine in Iowa” and doesn’t have a real plan to address Iowa’s water quality and cancer crises.
According to the American Cancer Society, “using mRNA is a promising new way to make vaccines to help treat cancer,” and “clinical trials are testing mRNA cancer vaccines in several types of cancer … Early results have been promising.” He also supports devastating “cuts to cancer research funding and rural healthcare … undercut[ting] Lahn’s message on fighting cancer.”
