RECAP: Ahead of Senate Debate, Farmer and Veterans Outline How Ashley Hinson Raised Prices on Iowans While She Got Rich
DUBUQUE – Today in Dubuque, veterans, a farmer, and a local leader set the stage for tonight’s Senate debate by gathering to spotlight the impact Ashley Hinson’s seven votes to continue the war in Iran, defense of chaotic tariffs, and cuts to healthcare are having on Iowa.
Today’s event continues the “Hinson’s Gain, Iowa’s Pain” statewide tour.
Key context: Hinson cast her seventh vote to continue the war in Iran as it devastates Iowa with “record diesel prices,” “surg[ing]” gas costs, fertilizer prices “near peak levels,” and inflation higher than the national average. She has repeatedly defended the war in Iran and downplayed the impact on Iowans, despite admitting in private that it’s becoming a “political liability.” She has raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Oil, and now those companies are seeing record profits up to $14 billion from the Iran war.
The costs from the war come on top of her votes to cut healthcare for 110,000 Iowans and make it more expensive for 119,000 Iowans – all while she has increased her wealth by up to 15x since getting to Congress.
“Tonight, you’re going to hear Ashley Hinson talk about how bipartisan she is,” said Senator Tom Townsend, and Navy veteran. “Pay attention to how she votes and not what she says because what she says is not what actually is happening. When she’s out there, she is not voting for the average everyday Iowan. She’s voting to help herself and her friends. […] So, I think it’s just time that we had someone out there that we could trust to fight for the average everyday issues.”
“Ashley Hinson had her chance to show she really cares about us. ,” said Pam Jochum, former State Senate President. “Every time it mattered, she voted against us. Now she’s pretending to care about us. We won’t be fooled by what she says on the debate stage tonight or in her TV ads, as she tries to run away from her voting record. I say, know her by her actions, not her recent words. It’s time for change.”
“With the Medicaid issues, with the issues of fuel, the cost of living, veterans’ families are suffering, farmers are suffering, community folks are suffering,” said Ron Healey, Vietnam veteran and farmer. “We need to have some relief as soon as possible. We have to look forward to a senator like Josh Turek that will fight for us.”
