Dave Muhlbauer Calls Out Zach Lahn for Hiding Who Paid His Running Mate’s Debt

CEDAR RAPIDS – Today, nominee for lieutenant governor Dave Muhlbauer held a press conference to call out Zach Lahn’s shady and corrupt behavior after the Des Moines Register reported that Lahn is covering up who secretly paid off his running mate’s $540,000 debt.

Wulf is under criminal investigation and accused of stealing from and defrauding farmers. Now it has come to light that a donor to Lahn’s campaign formed an LLC in Illinois “specifically” to allow a mysterious Iowa lender to pay Wulf’s debts. Ethics officials said hiding the identity of the lender behind an out-of-state LLC is “significant” and makes investigating the loan “very hard.”

Read what Muhlbauer had to say below:

“This isn’t just about a bad farm economy. This is about the kind of leader we want in the governor’s office and lieutenant governor’s office, and if we can trust them…Shortly after Zach Lahn selected his running mate, an unknown financier loaned [Derek Wulf] over half a million dollars so he could settle some of his debts,” said nominee for lieutenant governor Dave Muhlbauer. “Who secretly paid off the debts of Zach Lahn’s running mate? Why is Lahn keeping the identity of the mysterious donor hidden behind an out-of-state LLC? … The legal and ethical problems that have been raised should concern all Iowans.”
