FACT CHECK: Zach Lahn Supports Tariffs, War in Iran Driving Up Costs On Farmers and Families
DAVENPORT – Kansas carpetbagger and career political operative Zach Lahn is desperately trying — and failing — to rewrite his record supporting costly tariffs and the war in Iran on the debate stage. In reality, he fully supports the reckless policies coming out of D.C. that have sent the price of fuel and fertilizer skyrocketing.
Lahn is shamelessly out-of-touch with Iowans as diesel prices are at an all-time high and gas is $4.28 a gallon, inflation is up in the Midwest, and Iowans have paid an extra $3,700 for gas, groceries, housing, and health care.
Here’s what you need to know about Lahn supporting D.C. policies crushing families and farmers:
- Lahn fully supports tariffs that are making life unaffordable for working families, saying that “the idea that every tariff is a bad tariff is not true” and claiming that tariffs are “positive.”
- Lahn said tariffs “worked as intended” and claimed they don’t raise costs, even though tariffs have pushed Iowa’s agriculture industry to the brink of another farm crisis, as farmers are already struggling under the weight of a four-year downturn and filing for bankruptcy at the highest rate in the nation.
- Lahn refused to speak out when he was asked to condemn the war in Iran that’s caused diesel prices to skyrocket to a record high and jacked up the price of gas.
- He tried to paper over his support for the war by releasing his first — and only — policy plan that doesn’t go far enough to lower costs for Iowans: since announcing his gas tax cut, gas prices have risen and wiped out the savings his plan was supposed to deliver.
- Lahn has bragged about affordability even though record-high diesel prices are “straining the wallets of drivers and farmers alike” and “putting a squeeze on Iowa farmers as they prepare for harvest.”
