DES MOINES – Today, Ashley Hinson was hit with an ethics complaint calling on the U.S. House of Congressional Conduct to immediately investigate Hinson for violating House Ethics rules by helping her husband shadow lobby her and the Iowa congressional delegation.
The report claims Hinson violated House Ethics rules by “provid[ing] her husband and his professional association with access to [Hinson], and other congressional offices, in violation of House standards of conduct.”
Key Context: A report from the Washington Sun revealed Ashley Hinson’s husband, Matt Arenholz, who holds a “government affairs post at a leading insurance industry lobbying group,” used his post to “gain access to Hinson and other Iowa lawmakers” and “blur the lines” as a shadow lobbyist. Meanwhile, the national insurance group’s PAC contributed more than $67,000 to Hinson’s campaign and PACs over the years as her husband was helping his insurance group gain access to Hinson and DC powerbrokers.
“Iowans deserve to know if Ashley Hinson violated House Ethics rules by using her office to give her husband and his insurance lobbying group access to the entire Iowa congressional delegation,” said Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Drew Myers. “Iowans are sick and tired of corrupt politicians like Hinson being let off the hook for abuses of office at their expense. Come November, they’re going to reject her.”
