RECAP: Iowa Republican, Farmers, & Veterans in Davenport Called Out Ashley Hinson for Voting 7x to Continue Iran War
DAVENPORT – Today in Davenport, a local Republican, farmers, veterans, and leaders came together to call out Ashley Hinson for raising their gas, diesel, and grocery costs by voting seven times to continue the Iran War.
It comes after Hinson released a desperate statement on Monday trying to hide her seven votes to support the war after multiple polls have shown her losing the Senate race.
Together, they continued the “Hinson’s Gain, Iowa’s Pain” statewide tour.
Key context: Last week, Hinson cast her seventh vote to continue the war in Iran as it devastates Iowa with “record diesel prices,” “surg[ing]” gas costs, fertilizer prices “near peak levels,” and inflation higher than the national average. She has repeatedly defended the war in Iran and downplayed the impact on Iowans, despite admitting in private that it’s becoming a “political liability.” She has raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Oil, and now those companies are seeing record profits up to $14 billion from the Iran war.
The costs from the war come on top of her votes to cut healthcare for 110,000 Iowans and make it more expensive for 119,000 Iowans – all while she has increased her wealth by up to 15x since getting to Congress.
“Ashley Hinson actually said this about the war: it’s thousands of miles away. It is out of sight and out of mind for so many Americans,” said Adam Peters, Candidate for House District 97. “Out of sight? Tell that to the families of American service members, to the families of two Iowa Army Reserve soldiers who were killed in the opening days of the war. Tell that to the Iowa farmer or trucker filling a diesel tank. Tell that to a mom watching those numbers go higher and higher at the gas pump. The war may be thousands of miles away, but the consequences are not.”
“Diesel fuel has increased more than $2.50 a gallon in the last six months, all because of this war,” said John Whitaker, Henry County Farmer. “Ashley Hinson has voted seven times. Seven times she’s said no on stopping this war. Now, she’s calling on President Trump to stop this war immediately? Well, actions speak louder than words. Those votes were actions. […] Talk is cheap, but diesel fuel isn’t.”
“My premium on my drug plan is going to go up 77% next year, so I may shop around. I may find a less expensive plan. I might find that is actually now the new less expensive plan. A 77% increase is historically out of line with anything I’ve ever seen,” said Grant Allison, registered Republican in Davenport. “We all know the price of gas has gone up. We know the price of diesel has gone up. The price of my prescription drugs are being affected by the tariff to a large degree. If I look at Ashley Hinson and her record, I do not see her addressing this issue.”
“It’s troubling to hear Ashley Hinson takes in hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Oil. She voted seven times for the Iran War, putting my Navy chief brothers and sisters, their sailors, and military families at risk and under tremendous daily stress,” said Andy Carter, Muscatine County Farmer. “Congresswoman Hinson discounted how a war with Iran would affect Iowa’s economy and way of life. […] Ashley Hinson [has] run her course. After six years in Congress, she’s proven she cares only for the big corporations. Iowa’s farmers and veterans like us are just a stepping stone to her lobbyist lane.”
