RECAP: Iowa Leaders Continue “Hinson’s Gain, Iowa’s Pain” Statewide Tour in Council Bluffs, Call Out Ashley Hinson for Raising Costs Ahead of Election
DES MOINES – Today in Council Bluffs, Iowa leaders and Iowans impacted by high diesel, gas, and grocery costs from the Ashley Hinson-backed Iran War continued the “Hinson’s Gain, Iowa’s Pain” statewide tour.
Key context: Iowans across the state are feeling the pain from Ashley Hinson’s seven votes to continue the war in Iran when they go to fill up at the pump. While she’s gotten up to 15x wealthier in office, they’re struggling to afford gas and groceries as she downplays the Iran War as “out of sight, out of mind” for Iowans.
“When [Ashley Hinson] isn’t voting to make our lives worse, she’s making sure her life and those of her wealthy donors are getting better,” said Mike Gronstal, Former Majority Leader of the Iowa State Senate. “She’s increased her net worth by up to 15 times since coming to Congress. She’s living in a luxury apartment in D.C. on the taxpayer dime, and she’s spending campaign dollars on a lavish lifestyle. There’s one word for this: corruption.”
“This year we have spent as much on diesel at this point as we did all of last year, and we haven’t even started harvest yet,” said Daniel Rosmann, Shelby County farmer. “So, that number is likely to skyrocket here as diesel prices today are now the most expensive that they’ve been in our country’s history. It’s very frustrating when we have a representative in Ashley Hinson who has done nothing while this happens around her, and in many cases voted to perpetuate the problem.”
“I planned for retirement, and I have tried to live responsibly within my means. A healthcare bill of $726.03 a month changes that calculation dramatically,” said Geri Frederiksen, Council Bluffs senior. “So, when our elected officials talk about lowering costs, I want them to remember that behind every statistic is a real person opening a real bill at the kitchen table. I’m one of those people, and [a] $257.70 [increase in my healthcare bill] matters to me. I’m voting to end the high prices and on affordable health care. I’m rejecting Ashley Hinson.”
“In July of 2025, Representative Ashley Hinson voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill, legislation that substantially reduces the federal Medicaid spending over the next decade,” said Wendy Andersen, Council Bluffs disability advocate. “For families like mine, those decisions are deeply personal. My son Dexter has significant disabilities and complex medical needs. He receives a Medicaid waiver, and I know firsthand how important these services are.”
