Questions Zach Lahn Must Answer About His Running Mate’s Legal and Financial Troubles

DES MOINES – It’s been four days since an investigative report from the Des Moines Register revealed that Zach Lahn’s running mate Derek Wulf is under criminal investigation and is accused of theft and fraud, and Lahn has refused to address the serious allegations against his running mate.

In addition to being under criminal investigation, Wulf is involved in multiple disputes with farmers, lenders, and contractors, and is millions of dollars in debt. Farmers, who were already struggling financially, said Wulf’s predatory business practices “contributed to their strain.”

Lahn owes Iowans answers about Wulf’s lawsuits, debt, and ongoing criminal investigation:

  1. Why is Wulf being criminally investigated?
  1. Will Wulf continue to campaign for you while under criminal investigation?
  1. What will happen if Wulf is criminally indicted?
  1. Why did you lie and claim Wulf’s debts were settled in July, when a judge placed his farm in receivership in September?
  1. Where did the money Wulf owed farmers, lenders, and contractors go?
  1. Who is paying Wulf’s debts, and why have you refused to tell Iowans who is financing his bailout?
  1. When you announced Wulf as your running mate, you said he “has been there for Iowans.” What part of Wulf’s predatory business practices hurting farmers is him “being there for Iowans?”
  1. Choosing a running mate was your first major decision of the campaign. Is this the kind of rushed and reckless decision-making Iowans should expect if you become governor, and why should voters trust your judgement on issues that affect the entire state?
