DES MOINES – Today in Cedar Rapids, Iowa veterans came together on the six month anniversary of when the war in Iran began to speak about the impact of Ashley Hinson’s support for continuing the conflict at great cost to Iowans and U.S. servicemembers.

Key context: Ashley Hinson has voted six times to continue the Iran war. She has publicly defended the war numerous times, despite admitting in private that it’s becoming a “political liability.” Three Iowans have lost their lives in the conflict, and Iowans in every corner of the state are dealing with an affordability crisis due to the war.

“[Ashley Hinson] has supported the war at every opportunity, despite all of the evidence that we are worse off strategically, militarily, and economically,” said John Oakley, Iowa veteran who served 37 years in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 2020. “She has no business serving any longer as a representative, or possibly as a senator. Instead of doing what is right, she has decided to do what is easy. Iowans cannot afford Ashley Hinson.”

“I’m here today with my fellow veterans because we know that Iowans deserve better than Ashley Hinson, both in the House and as a Senate candidate,” said Darrell Andersen, Iowa veteran who served as a paratrooper in the 2nd Airborne Division. “But having served in the military, we know how important it is to have strong leadership in Washington. We trust that our leaders are willing to do what’s right. And here we are, six months later, no closer to the end because of Ashley Hinson. Come November, we must reject her.”

“A great senator doesn’t begin by asking, ‘What does my president want me to do?’” said Kevin Techau, Iowa veteran who served 27 years in the United States Air Force and the Iowa National Guard, retiring as a colonel. “On matters of war and peace, Iowa deserves a senator, not a presidential ally. On that question and all these questions concerning the Iran War, Ashley Hinson has already earned a big fat F and should not be elected the next senator from Iowa.”
