DES MOINES – Ashley Hinson has voted once again to continue the war in Iran despite admitting only one week ago that it’s turning into a major “political liability” for her Senate campaign. This is the fourth time she’s voted to continue the war since it started.
In Iowa, gas prices are up $1 dollar/gallon in the last year, while diesel is up nearly $2 dollars/gallon. Meanwhile, fertilizer costs are up anywhere from 33%-55% since the start of the war.
“One week ago, Ashley Hinson admitted the Iran war is a ‘political liability’ for her Senate campaign, and yet today she voted to continue supporting the conflict as it continues to hurt Iowans,” said Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Drew Myers. “Every time Hinson votes to continue the war, she makes it clear to Iowans that she is to blame for the pain they’re experiencing from higher gas, diesel, and fertilizer prices. ”

- The House passed a resolution on Wednesday to limit President Donald Trump’s war powers in Iran, a significant rebuke to Trump and his handling of the conflict.
- Democrats have repeatedly forced votes to limit Trump’s war powers in both the House and the Senate – a campaign that has gradually picked up more GOP support in recent weeks.
- The vote was 215 to 208 with Republican Reps. Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson crossing party lines to support the resolution.
