NEW: Carpetbagger Zach Lahn Avoids Questions About Living in Kansas
Kansas Reflector: Lahn “didn’t respond to a request for comment about why he chose to run for governor in Iowa rather than Kansas or questions … about his close ties to Kansas and decision in 2024 to transfer his voter registration to Iowa”
DES MOINES – A new report from the Kansas Reflector reveals that career political operative and carpetbagger Zach Lahn is refusing to answer questions “about his close ties to Kansas,” including why he voted in Kansas for years, had a primary mortgage on his Kansas home, and registered to vote in Iowa just before the two-year deadline to run for governor of Iowa.
Despite telling the Des Moines Register “he considers himself a full-time resident of Iowa” and “made the full move back to the state in 2023,” the Kansas Reflector found that Lahn and his wife purchased their Kansas home in July 2024 and “declared on mortgage documents it was her primary residence.” Lahn sold their Kansas home to an LLC he has ties to just four months before he launched his campaign for governor, and continues to spend the majority of his time in Kansas, not in Iowa.
Lahn’s connections to Kansas go back years, including his founding of “an unorthodox school in Wichita,” and Lahn’s voting record. According to the Kansas Reflector, Lahn “voted in Kansas elections in the 2018, 2020 and 2022 cycles … Lahn registered to vote in Iowa on Oct. 17, 2024,” which “allowed him to meet the state’s two-year residency requirement for a run for governor in 2026.”
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Career political operative and Kansas carpetbagger Zach Lahn won’t answer why he voted in Kansas for years and only re-registered to vote in Iowa right before the two-year deadline to run for governor. Lahn even took out a primary mortgage on his Kansas home while claiming to be a full-time Iowa resident, then lied about it. If Lahn can’t tell the truth about where he lives, why should Iowans ever trust him to lead our state?”
