Iowans Call Out Kim Reynolds’ Failed Record, GOP Gov Field Ahead of Dubuque Legacy Tour Stop

DES MOINES – Today, ahead of Kim Reynolds’ legacy tour stop in Dubuque, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart, State Sen. Tom Townsend, and IBEW 704 member Zach Shireman hosted a virtual press conference to set the record straight on Reynolds’ record of failure and the Republicans running to replace her.

Speakers called out how Reynolds and a decade of one-party rule have crushed Iowa’s economy, shortchanged our schools, and made it harder to access health care. Despite that, Randy Feenstra, Adam Steen, Zach Lahn, Brad Sherman, and Eddie Andrews are all running to continue Reynolds’ failed status quo that puts powerful insiders first and working families last.

“Iowans in Dubuque are struggling to make ends meet, just as they are across the rest of the state … Despite that, Randy Feenstra, Adam Steen, Zach Lahn, Brad Sherman, Eddie Andrews, they’ve all made it very clear that they would not change a thing,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart. “Iowans in Dubuque, like the two you just heard from, know the truth about Kim Reynolds’ legacy because they’re living it every day. And they know that we simply cannot afford to keep going down the path that Kim Reynolds and Republican insiders have put us on.”

“It’s not too difficult to look at the failed policies of having entire control of one party for the last decade has brought us to … I mean, Feenstra voted for half of this stuff when he was still in the legislature,” said State Sen. Tom Townsend. “I don’t really see the merit in running around bragging about the legacy of how great everything has been in the last ten years because [Republicans] have not done anything to improve everyday working conditions for everyone in the state of Iowa.”

“Under Reynolds, Iowa’s gone backwards. The economy’s been mismanaged, wages are falling behind, and working families are struggling just to catch up,” said IBEW 704 member Zach Shireman. “Kim Reynolds has also weakened our protections for Iowa workers … We deserve new leadership like Rob Sand, who is focused on working families, strong public schools, affordable healthcare, and an economy that works for everybody, not just the political insiders and the special interests.”

The field is running to continue Kim Reynolds’ failed agenda:

  • Feenstra was caught claiming to have Reynolds’ endorsement on the campaign trail, despite the fact that Reynolds promised to remain neutral in the primary.
