NEW: GOP Gov Candidate Adam Steen Lied About Creating Jobs in Iowa, Outsourced His Business to China
DES MOINES – A new report from American Journal News reveals that Republican gubernatorial candidate and Kim Reynolds’ right-hand man Adam Steen outsourced his West Des Moines hunting equipment business to China, despite claiming to value “putting Americans first,” and introducing himself to voters in campaign ads as a “business builder” who “helped companies grow and prosper right here in Iowa.”
Steen is “campaigning for Iowa governor as an entrepreneur and job creator, even though his company outsourced production to China.” Steen “admitted in an October 2025 Instagram post” that his company’s products were “outsource[d] to China.”
As American Journal News reports, “Steen’s pledge to bring jobs back to Iowa was further undermined by a recent campaign ad in which he boasted that he would ‘stop China from stealing the American dream.’ The ad features stock footage of farmland with the words ‘Keep Iowa Free’ emblazoned across it. The footage, however, was shot in Georgia.”
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Adam Steen sold Iowa jobs out to China to make a quick buck. Steen has said he wants to run the state of Iowa as a business, but his own business record of outsourcing jobs overseas and lying about it is exactly why Iowans can’t trust him anywhere near the governor’s office.”
