“Feenstra Has Been Ineffective on E-15”: Clinton County Voter Calls Out Feenstra For Failing Iowa Farmers

DES MOINES – In a new letter to the editor in The Gazette, a Clinton County voter called Randy Feenstra out for repeatedly failing Iowans on E15. Feenstra, the chair of a useless biofuels council in Congress, promised in January to get an E15 bill on the floor. Three months later, he still has nothing to show for it.

  • Even though farmers represent a minority of the population, they impact the majority of our economy. They are a vulnerable population, dependent on the actions of our elected leaders.

  • Randy Feenstra, like me, grew up on a farm, baling hay, probably scraping feeding floors. I’m guessing we both grew up believing that farming is the baseline of Iowa’s economy. In my childhood, corn was a crop fed to livestock; now it is a commodity, producing fuel in a world where that other commodity, oil, is ping-ponged back and forth by world leaders. E-15 has been a boon for Iowa farmers and for Iowa consumers.

  • Six times, Feenstra has indicated that E-15 legislation (H.R.1346) was “close to passing.” Is he not able to argue effectively for this bill that is critical to Iowa’s economy?

  • The economy means jobs. Truck drivers. Nurses. Waiters. Plumbers. Electricians. Teachers. Cashiers. Pilots. Administrative assistants. Salespeople. Contractors. Lawyers. Law enforcement. Which could you do without?

  • If you get a chance to talk with this candidate for governor, ask him to look at the hands that feed his pocket book and ask him to shake those hands in solidarity with farmers and the Iowans they support.
