Voter Protection Director

Position Summary: 

The Iowa Democratic Party is hiring a Voter Protection Director for our coordinated campaign. The Voter Protection Director (VPD) will be responsible for managing the operations and logistics of the 2026 Coordinated Campaign’s voter access and voter protection programs. The Voter Protection Director should be a savvy political and organizing mind who can engage stakeholders and recruit volunteers to support programs that move officials toward policies that facilitate voting.This fundamental role within the Senior Leadership Team will work closely with other departments to implement programs that elect Democrats up and down the ballot. This position is full-time and based in Des Moines, Iowa.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to the Coordinated Campaign Director and other Department Directors to research, build, and execute statewide programs for voter protection and voting access. 
  • Manage stakeholder relationships (DSCC, DCCC, DNC, other groups) to provide updates and report-outs from the ground.
  • Lead election administration engagement and other voter access programs in their state, including building and managing relationships with County Auditors across Iowa, and with other state and local officials as needed.
  • Set strategic objectives for programs and metric goals to achieve those objectives; hold staff and self accountable to meeting those goals.
  • Recruiting and managing Voter Protection volunteers and overseeing poll observer program.
  • Create and lead training to educate staff, volunteers, and voters.
  • Plan for and oversee voter protection boiler room.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  •  Past experience on campaign Voter Protection team highly preferred
  •  Candidates with organizing, political and legal experience are sought
  • Multiple cycles of campaign experience in a political or organizing role, or similar experience at an advocacy organization, nonprofit, or consulting firm
  • Experience managing external relationships with stakeholders at different levels
  • Experience managing large teams and projects, with strong interpersonal communications skills
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization
  • The ability to work well and remain calm under pressure
  • Fluency with Voter Access tools, such as LBJ and VAN, preferred

Compensation:

Salary range $7.5k-8.5k/month with health and life insurance benefits.
