REMINDER: United States Coast Guard Working Without Pay as Iowa Republicans Enjoy A Week-Long Vacation
Republicans Have Majority Control in the U.S. House, Senate and White House
Des Moines – After putting United States military members through the longest federal shutdown ever, Iowa Republicans are taking a week-long vacation as military members go unpaid again.
Members of the United States Coast Guard have been working without pay since the Department of Homeland Security shut down at midnight on Friday.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers are also working without pay. Some workers at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are being furloughed and the shutdown is making it harder for FEMA to reimburse states for disaster relief costs.
Despite all of this, Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn all promptly left Washington D.C. last week to come back to Iowa and campaign without ensuring military members and other federal workers would get paid during the shutdown.
“Randy Feenstra, Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn are taking a week-long vacation while members of the Coast Guard, who are willing to sacrifice everything for our country, are working unpaid,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “Members of the military and folks who are showing up to their jobs every day shouldn’t be used as political pawns. They should be paid. Period.”
