BREAKING: MAGA Grassroots Group Begs Trump Not to Endorse Randy Feenstra in GOP Gov Primary
DES MOINES – Ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to Iowa today, a new report from Fox News reveals that a MAGA grassroots group in Iowa is circulating a petition begging Donald Trump not to endorse “absent congressman” Randy Feenstra in the chaotic Republican gubernatorial primary.
As Fox reports, grassroots Republicans say “there is a ‘night and day’ difference between Feenstra and other candidates,” and many of the Republicans who signed the petition are influential activists and elected officials. The petition has garnered over 330 signatures.
Here’s what the Republican grassroots is saying about Feenstra:
- Republican operative and former Greene County GOP Chair Sean Sebourn: “I just don’t think that he’s a worthy candidate for governor. With the real, true MAGA conservatives that are running for the position of governor of Iowa, I think that Trump will be wise enough and smart enough to not endorse.”
- State Representative Jason Gearhart: “While I don’t know Congressman Feenstra personally, I have spoken with many members of his district, including state representatives who refer to him as the ‘absent congressman.’”
- Cass County Republicans member Fritz Baier: “I DO NOT WANT AN [sic] HAND PICKED ESTABLISHMENT CANDIDATE.”
- Muscatine school board member Jennifer Duggan: “His previous patterns of doing business is not what Iowans are currently needing at this time.”
This is just the latest embarrassment of many for Feenstra’s “milquetoast” campaign. No-show Feenstra has been flamed by his opponents and by the Republican grassroots for bailing on events with the rest of the primary field — and it’s even caused some to question his ability to win a general election. Back in D.C., Feenstra has also taken heat from Iowa farmers for kicking the can down the road on E15, voting to jack up prices, and putting health care on the chopping block.
From Iowa Democratic Party spokesperson Terra Hernandez:
“Randy Feenstra continues to have a big problem with his own party because he’s more loyal to the Washington swamp than to Iowans. This is a major headache for the IAGOP, and just confirms that the wide-open Republican gubernatorial primary will remain a nasty and chaotic race to the bottom.”
