On the 1st Day of Decline, the Iowa GOP Gave Me… A Skyrocketing Cancer Growth Rate
DES MOINES, IA – On the first day of Christmas, Iowans didn’t get a partridge or a pear tree — they got the fastest-growing cancer rate in the United States.
In recent years, Iowa’s cancer rate has continued to climb, and now we’re one of only two states in the country where cancer cases are still going up. However, even with numbers this serious, the current administration has only invested $1 million in cancer research — far less than what’s needed and far less than what our neighboring states are investing. Iowans deserve more than that.
While Iowan families are preparing for the holiday season, Iowa continues to fall in rankings that actually matter. This December, instead of French hens and golden rings, we’re counting down the 12 Days of Iowa’s decline — a daily look at the rankings Iowa has tanked under a decade of one-party rule. (Spoiler alert! There’s plenty of material.)
Today, we are spotlighting Iowa’s fastest-growing cancer rate — which has skyrocketed us straight to first in the nation. Here’s a look at some of Iowa’s recent cancer rankings:
- Iowa is ranked number one for cancer growth in the nation.
- Iowa has the 2nd highest cancer incidence (new cancer) rate in the nation.
- New report reveals Iowa among worst in nation for new lung cancer cases.
- Iowa has the 5th highest incidence rate for melanoma and it is rising faster in Iowa than most other states.
- Iowa has the 9th highest incidence rate for breast cancer, and it is rising faster in Iowa than most other states.
Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 2. (Hint: it’s not getting any better.)
