As ACA Open Enrollment Begins in Iowa, Health Care Costs More Than Double for Working Iowans

As the enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act begins today, Iowans were confronted with the stark reality that their health care costs for next year have skyrocketed  — all because Republicans refuse to reopen our government and lower costs for everyday Americans. For 117,890 Iowans, their health care costs next year will double — all because Republicans refuse to join Democrats in lowering health care costs and reopening the government.

From Day One, Democrats have been unwavering in our fight to lower health care costs for Iowans. Meanwhile, Republicans are on vacation — refusing to return to Washington, D.C. and solve the health care crisis they created.

Democrats will continue fighting to ensure health care premiums don’t double for thousands of Iowans and that 80,000 Iowans don’t lose their health insurance entirely.

In response to ACA open enrollment beginning today, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart released the following statement:

“As Donald Trump and Iowa Republicans allow health care prices to rise, Iowa’s working families, who are already struggling, will soon be priced out of their health care coverage entirely. The reality is that families across Iowa will be forced to choose between health care and paying for other necessities, like rent, groceries, or car payments. That should never happen in America, and it is because Republicans who are in total charge of this government are failing to do their job. That’s why Democrats are working day and night to save health care for Iowans and lower costs for all.”
