ICYMI: Iowa Republicans Hopelessly Out-Of-Touch on State’s Shrinking Economy

Iowa is facing a shrinking GDP,  declining revenue, and a terrible job market, yet Republicans are blind to the state’s economic woes

Des Moines – Iowa Republicans like Zach Nunn love to pretend that Iowa’s doing great. The facts show Iowa’s economy is ranked as the worst in the nation, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Iowa is specifically 49th in economic growth and 48th in personal income growth, and the state’s economy has shrunk by 2.3 percent since 2022.

As long-time Iowa journalist Ed Tibbetts points out: “Maybe it’s a good thing Zach Nunn is running to keep his job in Washington, D.C., rather than running for governor. Because one thing is clear: He doesn’t have a clue what’s happening back home.”

Iowa Republicans have had control over the state House, Senate, and Governor’s office for more than eight years. And under their leadership, Iowa has gone further and further down the wrong path.

“Republicans are badly out-of-touch with the concerns of everyday Iowans. Iowans don’t need more excuses while our economy shrinks and while prices continue to rise. They’re looking for leaders who will address the problems our state is facing,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart. “We’ve had over eight years of Republican rule, and nothing to show for it but farms that are now facing bankruptcy, struggling rural hospitals, and public schools that don’t know if they’ll have the funds to see tomorrow. Iowa needs change. ”
