Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart Issues Statement on Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ Vote to Cut Medicaid to Pay for Huge Tax Breaks for the Top 1 Percent

DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart released the following statement on Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ vote to cut Medicaid:

“Mariannette Miller-Meeks delivered a huge blow to Iowa hospitals and nursing homes with her vote to cut billions of dollars in Medicaid spending so she can fund tax breaks for billionaires and the top one percent. Iowans need to know that these cuts will cause Iowa’s hospitals to close, seniors will not be able to get the care they need and premiums will skyrocket. Will Miller-Meeks be honest enough to tell Iowans that truth?

Miller-Meeks has proven she will put billionaires and the top one percent over the needs of Iowans.”

More specifically: Miller-Meeks, as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, delivered a key YES vote to advance the largest cut to Medicaid in history that would:

• Lead to tens of thousands of Iowans and millions of Americans losing health care.

• Slash $1.7 million in funding to Davenport’s Genesis Medical Center, located in IA-01, and threaten the closure of hospitals across Iowa.

• Levy a hidden tax on Medicaid enrollees.
