With the Trade War still going strong with no end in sight, Congressman Rod Blum has clearly lost the bet, while Iowa farmers lose their livelihoods.
Congressman Rod Blum and Republicans across Iowa continue to ignore the plight of the state’s agriculture community. When the President visited Iowa in July, Blum welcomed him with open arms and thanked him for the short term bailout given to farmers at the time.
The President’s Twitter Trade War continues to hurt Iowa’s biggest economy. Most recently, the Des Moines Register reported that farmers stand to lose up to $2.2 billion because of the mess made by Trump and his administration.
Iowa’s largest crops stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars alone. Pork could lose $911 million, soybeans $520 million, and corn $337 million.
Despite knowing the risks, Rod Blum and the Republican Congressional delegation from Iowa refuse to stand up for our farmers. Instead, they welcome short-term solutions to long-term problems.
“Time and time again we see Rod Blum unwilling to stand up for his district,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price. “He welcomes the President here with open arms, thanks him for his empty promises that have produced nothing good for his district or the state, and resorts to personal attacks instead of actual policy ideas that will help Iowans. People in the first district deserve a representative who will fight like hell for them day in and day out. They will have that person in Abby Finkenauer.”
Maybe Secretary Ross and Rod Blum can discuss solutions for Iowans over their steak dinner.
