RECORD CHECK: David Young’s All Talk When It Comes to Health Care

David Young likes to talk about being on the side of working people struggling to afford health care, but in reality the Congressman’s record tells a different story. Over his time in Congress, David Young has repeatedly voted against access to health care for Americans. Just the last couple of years shows Iowans where David Young’s priorities lie.
  • In 2015, David Young voted for a full repeal of protections for Iowans with pre-existing conditions, without a replacement.
  • David Young voted for the AHCA. Not only would the bill have increased health care costs, but it would have gutted coverage for essential health benefits and protections for people with pre-existing conditions. It also would have created a tax on seniors.
  • The AHCA also included an amendment that allows health insurance companies to charge people with pre-existing conditions more.
  • David Young claims that he tried to protect people with pre-existing condition by making sure the AHCA included those protections before he voted for it, but all he did was make sure there was an amendment that gave a little bit of money and did nothing to actually solve the problem
  • David Young also voted in favor of the GOP tax scam, which besides just taking money from the middle class, raised premiums by 10 percent and ripped health insurance away from 13 million people.
Most recently, a little over a month before the Midterms, Young and 27 other Republicans in vulnerable districts tried to put forth a resolution expressing concern about people with pre-existing conditions. All the resolution does is express an opinion; it does not take any actionable steps to protect people with pre-existing conditions.

“David Young has made it clear that his priorities are party over people,”said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Troy Price. “Time and again he has voted for policies that would hurt Iowans’ abilities to get the care they need. It’s time that Iowans stand up and tell David Young that he can’t play politics with their health care anymore. It’s time to elect Cindy Axne.”
