The Iowa Democratic Party’s Disability Caucus released the following statement and is encouraging supporters to attend the events below to honor the anniversary of Senator Tom Harkin’s Americans with Disabilities Act:
“As we mark the 27th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), let us remember how far we have come and what work lies ahead. We have many challenges confronting those who are in the disability community. Our civil rights, access to quality and affordable healthcare, and voting have been severely undermined in the past several months.
We have to dig deep and work harder yet to ensure our voices are heard, starting today:
This is also National Disability Voter Registration Week, and we encourage all who are not registered, to do so. If you can assist others in getting registered we are grateful for your efforts. Our lives are on the line.”
